Twelve years ago on October 1st, 2010 Gainax, one of (if not the) most prestigious of anime studios, the creators behind some of the greatest anime of all time including Neon Genesis Evangelion, Gurren Lagann, and FLCL, released a series about a pair of Lecherous and Gluttonous fallen angels using their underwear as weapons to fight ghosts. Today we finally got season 2.
It's about fucking time.
Ever since we got the first 13-episode season people have been clamoring for more Panty and Stocking with Garderbelt (PSG), but until an inexplicably random announcement, we had no hope for a continuation. Gainax, now reuniting with the legendary Hiroyuki Imaishi and his Studio Trigger (Kill la Kill, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners) are making our dreams come true. Undoubtedly this will come with even more amazing visuals and definitely more of it's amazing music.
I know for me the music was very influential to my lasting tastes, turning me on to a very particular flavor of electro house and breakbeat that I have an attraction to even now. It turns out that I'm not the only one that feels this way. A shared love for the show inspired the musicians onumi and Luci (Aka Creep-P) to team up on "REPENT MOTHERFUCKER," a remix of the show's hero/transformation theme. Made very rapidly over the course of 2 days, the two producers built upon Teddyloyd's original track "Fly Away" to make something fresh and new. After my first few listens, hearing Luci's sample work and numi's arrangement I had to pull them both aside to pick their brains a bit to learn how the team up happened:

So firstly, I take it you might have heard that we are getting a new session of Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt… I’m guessing there’s “no way” you two are fans, eh?
Funnily enough, My bff in HS was SUPER obsessed with it to the point she would not shut up about it so I never watched it, And then a month or so ago I binged it all in like two days and loved it so much

Being a fan would probably undersell me to hell and back, To where I quite literally became a PSG rip off. I’ve been following this series since it started, and to this day I still cannot believe we’re getting a season two. I’m still waiting for the “gotcha“ moment.
I know right?! They better not make us wait another 12 years for session three.

It’s like everything they do just bleeds aesthetic. I think though my favorite part has to be Teddyloid’s iconic soundtrack. At the time I was a dive bar DJ spinning b-side electo house and the more poppy industrial stuff out there. All of a sudden this vulgar anime hits my radar and forever changed my taste in music. Do you feel PSG influenced your musical palette?
I think a lot of popular genres at the moment, with hyperpop adjacent genres and rave inspired music making a return, leave me wanting a very specific something that very few have been good at hitting (zaphyre has hit it very well). I think experiencing P&S has put together the aesthetic pieces that I've wanted to combine for a while now, I definitely plan to continue the sound of this song for a bit at the lease.
Teddyloid is absolutely one of my inspirations, especially being a queer kid only having music and anime. As of recent though, Jersey Club, hyperpop, and just hard dance in general has absolutely made it’s way into my heart, who honestly, a person I see who’s phenomenal and itches that scratch for me is DJ Re:code.
That brings me to my next question: How did this dank as fuck team up happen? What made the stars align for this?
Twitter! Lol, I posted a wip for the song and a friend of mine, WookieeDubs, tagged Luci in it and said we should collab on it. So we did lol, Me & Luci have talked a bit before hand and i know hey're pretty sick so i figured why not.
Literally, Twitter. WookieDubs just tagged me. I actually asked Wookie, and they wanted to see us work together. (And little secret, I was actually going to reach out in the future but… as you said, stars aligned!)
We should def do some more in this style :)

I've been listening to the track over and over on repeat. This amazing flip on the original Teddyloid track is both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. More progressive and definitely more aggressive, REPENT MOTHERFUCKER is a definite banger that I expect to hear in a ton of sets to come, and I doubt that I'll get tired of it any time soon.
